Joaquim Rodríguez & Katusha Team for 2013 Tour de France: Ready to win

Canyon and Katusha Team will be one of the main protagonists in the 2013 Tour de France with Joaquim Rodríguez as team leader, backed by an impressive team ready to fight for the win all the way to Paris. This is the 100th edition of the Tour de France and Purito Rodríguez will go for his third consecutive Grand Tour podium after after last year’s Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a Espana results.

Joaquim

Rodríguez said of the 2013 Tour, “My intention is to do the best possible result in GC and win a stage. I want to leave having the peace of mind knowing it was the result I deserved, be it eighth or first. Last year, I was second in the Giro, and third in the Vuelta, and I could have won both. I am more mature. I know it’s complicated, but if I am going to discount my chances to win, it will be on the road, not at the start.”

Rodríguez continued, explaining “this Tour is hard, very hard. Maybe the Pyrénées are not so much this year, but the last week in the Alps is spectacular. The opening days are dangerous. Something will happen before we get to the Alps, but it’s there the winner will be decided. For me to win? Everything has to go perfectly for me, and the others have some troubles.”

Joaquim

Katusha Team head Sport Director Valerio Piva said “I think we will have the best, strongest roster, with Joaquim Rodríguez as a leader, and our main goal is to go for general classification. We have strong climbers to support him like Losada, Trofimov and Dani Moreno, who will be our second in command. We have strong riders for protecting our leader in the first part of the Tour, like Brutt, Smukulis, Kuchynski and Vorganov. There support will be crucial, especially in the team time trial and to cover the key breakaways. We also have Alexander Kristoff for sprints; he’s in great shape, so I think he can do a good jobs and also support the team in some stages.”

Katusha Team must be focused from the very beginning of the Tour the three stage in Corsica will be tough, especially the third, that’s why we will be there a little earlier than expected in order to check it. Obviously, the third week will be key; the most demanding , but it’s a three-week race so we have to pay attention everyday. We have done all the right preparation and we are ready and motivated to reach our goals.
