My name is Carolin Happke and I’m from Erftstadt. I’m 16 years old and have been riding triathlon for 10 years. In addition, I also started riding mountain bike races in 2008. It was only by chance that I was invited to take part in a training session on the track in Cologne. I had such a lot of fun there that since 2009 I have been concentrating exclusively on track and road racing. My home club is the PV Triathlon Witten, which gives me a huge amount of support.
I became aware of the Young Heroes initiative when I needed a new road bike the year before last and was looking for a suitable one on the Canyon website. I was so enthusiastic about Canyon’s initiative that I applied immediately. A short while later I received the long-awaited reply that I would be included in the Young Heroes team for the 2011 season.
My greatest triumphs were in 2010. I was German women’s champion in the points race and 3rd in the 2000m individual pursuit. In addition, I won the TMP Tour and finished first in the BDR talent scouting in both Holle and Cologne.
In 2011 I’m aiming to pick up podium places in the German championships on both track and road, as well as to defend my title in the points race. In addition, I’d also like to be successful in the TMP Tour once again. The other highlights in my season will be the International Junior Tour in Assen/Holland and the BDR talent scouting races.
I’m really looking forward to the time with Canyon and the Young Heroes. I also know that I’ll have an awful lot of fun, have a great deal of success and learn so much more.
