Introducing the Canyon Young Heroes: David Luis

Hello readers,

My name is David Luis, I’m 15 years old and I come from Portugal. I’ve been a competitive cyclist for 6 years now and I particularly like the disciplines mountain bike and triathlon and have done so for ages now. 2010 was an unbelievable year for me because I had the opportunity to join the Portuguese triathlon team.

As I needed a new bike for the forthcoming season, the choice about which one was quickly made. It just had to be a Canyon. Therefore I and my dad called Canyon Portugal, where we then found out about the Young Heroes initiative for the first time from Canyon representative Paulo Alves. I then quickly sent my application to Canyon in Koblenz and got the news that I had been accepted into the team a short time later. I was over the moon and can’t wait to get started in 2011.

I celebrated my greatest triumphs in 2010. In 28 races including triathlons and duathlons, I was able to achieve a podium position 23 times. My personal highlight was the European Triathlon Championships in Gaia – Oporto, where I finished 5th in my age group and 11th in the general classification.

My personal aim for 2011 is to achieve a great deal of success with the Young Heroes and the Lousa Racing Team. A further major aim is the European Triathlon Championships in Poland, where I’ll be aiming to be the best in my age group and qualify for the triathlon worlds in China. In addition, I’m looking forward to doing battle in Hamburg at the Vattenfall event with the Young Heroes and Erik Zabel. On top of that there’s also the Portuguese Swimming Championships and the junior Tour of Portugal, where I’m also looking to give everything and take a place on the podium.

I’m especially looking forward to meeting other sport fanatics like myself as well as Erik Zabel and the professional team at Canyon. However, above all I can’t wait to check out my new Canyon road bike.
