With another brilliant uphill sprint finish, Vuelta leader Joaquim Rodriguez won the
Vuelta a España’s Stage 6 that finished atop the Alto Fuerte de Rapitá climb in Jaca.
Riding his Katusha Team Canyon Aeroad CF 9.0, Rodriguez easily defended his Vuelta lead,
taking the winner’s time bonus and taking time on his rivals.
“Today’s stage was really hard and unpredictable”, explained Rodriguez. “All the teams
were very organized and tried to do their best to win today. In the final, we made a big
selection because of the speed, so only a few riders were still left. I attacked Froome with
200 meters to go and was bale to win the final sprint.
I’m very happy about this victory: I in very good form, and the fact that my team is
more or less the same as in ‘Giro d’Italia’ makes me feel confident about my chances.
And there’s Denis Menchov which gives me a great help with his experience. My rivals are
very good: especially Froome proved to be strong after a great ‘Tour de France’.
But I feel very good and I want to keep this red jersey”.
Way to go, Purito!
