It was exciting, it was on a knife edge but he did it. On stage 11 of the Tour of Spain Joaquím “Purito“Rodríguez was able to defend his place as leader of the overall classification.
The riders had to overcome 39.4 kilometers, including a 10-kilometer climb from Cambados to Pontevedra. It was a time-trial which clearly favoured the climbers.
The pros from Katusha impressively demonstrated that the new Speedmax CF is undisputedly one of the fastest time-trial bikes in the world.
Thanks to a sensational performance on his Speedmax CF Purito finished the time-trial in 7th place, 1 minute and 16 seconds down on the Swede Fredrik Kessiakoff (Astana), who did the day’s fastest time of 52.16 minutes. Rodriguez now has a slender 1 second advantage over his rival Alberto Contador, thereby retaining his red jersey.
Teammate Dani Moreno finished the time-trial back in 15th place and therefore improved his position in the overall standings to 6th.
Today’s stage 12 (190km) starts off really flat and finishes with a stiff 2 kilometer mountain top finish on the Mirador de Ézaro. This is tough with its 250 metres of elevation with an average gradient of 13.1% and peaks of 25%!
Can mountain goat Purito extend his lead further on today’s stage? We are convinced that he can wish our team the very best of luck!
Keep it going boys!
