Joaquim Rodríguez and Katusha Team continue in Ardennes

Out of the tube, onto the bike: after his Crash at the Amstel Gold Race last Sunday, the doctors cleared Joaquim Rodríguez to start at the Fléche Wallone and Liège-Bastogne-Liège.

A CT-scan revealed a severe contusion on his thigh, which resulted in a big question mark concerning his participation in the two remaining Ardennes-classics.

Today, on Tuesday, the Catalan rider did a two hour training, after which he decided to participate as Katusha’s leader in both remaining Ardennes classics on his Aeroad CF. Will he bis able to cross the finish line on the Muur de Huy as a winner again this year?

“Tomorrow I will take part to La Flèche Wallonne with the number 1 in my back and that gives me strong motivations, but I’m also aware I’m not in my top shape and so it will be very hard to encore last edition’s victory. You must be perfect on every point of view in order to win these classic races. I have to admit I’m a little bit disappointed, because everybody knows that for me this week is one of the most important aims of the season. I hope to recover my top shape for Liège-Bastogne-Liège, my favorite competition. I will give my best tomorrow too, but I’ve already spoken with my teammates and I will be at their disposal in order to take the best possible result for Katusha” – said Joaquim Rodríguez.
